DFFE EPWP Municipal Environmental Internship Programme 2025

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is recruiting unemployed South African graduates for its 2025 Municipal Environmental Graduate Programme, under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). This 12-month internship offers hands-on experience in environmental management within municipalities across South Africa’s nine provinces.

Programme Overview
The internship equips graduates to support municipalities with environmental planning, policy integration, and sustainability initiatives. Interns will engage in capacity-building, awareness campaigns, and programme implementation to strengthen local environmental governance.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a National Diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Understand environmental legislation and local government operations.
- Demonstrate skills in:
- Verbal and written communication
- Computer literacy
- Stakeholder engagement and facilitation
- Environmental planning
- A valid driver’s licence is advantageous but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical environmental support to municipalities.
- Integrate environmental priorities into local plans (e.g., IDPs, DDM).
- Engage in environmental governance forums.
- Lead awareness and education campaigns.
- Monitor and assess municipal environmental programme performance.
